Since the establishment of diplomatic relations on November 14, 1977, the Republic of Korea and Sri Lanka have maintained close ties in various fields such as political, economic, development cooperation, cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
In December 2022, the Government of the Republic of Korea announced 「the Strategy for a Free, Peaceful, and Prosperous Indo-Pacific Region」 and presented a vision to promote reliable and mutually beneficial economic cooperation by actively strengthening economic and development cooperation with South Asian countries as a Global Pivotal State.
Sri Lanka has great potential for cooperation with Korea, along with its strategic importance as the "Pearl of the Indian Ocean," and the Korean government is pushing for various ways for cooperation to develop future-oriented partnership with Sri Lanka.
Based on the achievements of diplomatic ties between the two countries, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Sri Lanka will continue to make efforts to develop bilateral relations in various ways in the future.
In addition, we will do our best to improve the safety and the rights of Korean nationals living in Sri Lanka and Koreans visiting Sri Lanka.
Thank you.
